Sending event invites and organizing rsvp's, etc. would be really useful. Another area that (similar to work projects or newsletter building) is localization/translation project tracking and collaborative editing. As an echo to your bullet about shopping lists, a "wish list" concept would also be useful for things like birthdays, christmas, baby/bridal showers, etc. To take it a step further, referencing your friends' and families' wishlists into your own shopping list would be awesome.
